About
Heard Around the Hydrant
If you’ve ever looked at a little dog and thought, “How can something this small run the entire household?” you’re among friends.
I’m Cyn, and Heard Around the Hydrant grew out of my love for small dogs, my experiences living with them, and a realization that little dogs really do come with their own set of joys, quirks, and challenges.
I wanted to create a place where small-dog people could find useful information without feeling as though they had wandered into a veterinary textbook.
So I built this canine “water cooler”.
Why Small Dogs?
Small dogs are not large dogs in travel size. They are so much more.
Their little mouths, tiny bodies, nutritional needs, safety concerns, exercise requirements, and even everyday household hazards are different in some situations.
There’s plenty of general dog information out there.
I want Heard Around the Hydrant to focus on life with our little ones.
The goal is simple: share useful information, learn along the way, and have some fun while we’re at it.
Meet Moe
Moe is my little sidekick, companion and a major reason this site exists.
He’s seven pounds of personality wrapped in fur, and life with him provides a steady stream of lessons, laughs, and occasional head-scratching moments.
Some of those moments become stories.
Naturally, we call them Moements.
He’ll be popping up on the blog and soon on our You Tube channel by the same name as this blog.
No release form required he’s OK with helping me out.
What You’ll Find Here
Heard Around the Hydrant covers the things that matter to people living with toy and small-breed dogs.
Things like :
a practical care and safety information segment
a Breed of the Month segment when we’ll explore a toy or small breed which will include a little overview their personalities and yes, quirks
a children’s dog book review once a month
product discussions
plenty of observations about life with little dogs.
I’m not here to pretend I know everything, but questions and comments are encouraged.
You might be busy. I’ll be happy to research for you if you have a concern or question that hasn’t been answered, or you simply can’t find.
I know… AI. If you don’t have time for that… I’m your small dog researcher.
When a topic calls for veterinary or professional expertise, I’ll say so.
This is a place for practical information, trustworthy sources, personal experience, and conversation.
The My Ten Pound Hound Connection
Heard Around the Hydrant is part of the same little world as My Ten Pound Hound Bakery, my small-batch bakery created with little dogs in mind.
The bakery is where the snacks live.
Heard Around the Hydrant is where the stories, information, and conversation live.
Same family. Different room.
My Ten Pound Hound Bakery is local in Lake County Illinois. Check it out to see if you’re in our ordering area.
That’s a clickable link up above. It’ll shuttle you to the bakery. ;)
And now…
Pull Up a Chair…
… next to the hydrant.
If you love a small dog — or are thinking about bringing one into your life — I hope you’ll stick around.
Read a post. Meet a breed. Learn something useful. Laugh at Moe… or me ;)
There’s always something “heard around the hydrant”.
